I had seen the trailer for this film from Puerto Rico, which was being shown at the Chicago Latino Film Festival, and recommended to my wife and friends that we go see it, so we did. The other three of my party liked it, and although it looked promising, I have to say I was disappointed. The comedy bits in this film were not too bad I guess, but they lacked any sort of an edge, and the bits were way overacted. By an edge, I mean maybe the comedy should have been more raunchy or something in order to compensate for the overacting and the lack of funny characters in the film. I mean not one of the characters in this film were funny in their own right. The only one that even came close to being humorous was the old guy who played the priest, he was not bad. But maybe the director thought they should overact because he knew the characters were not funny. However I will say the film looked very Puertorrican(film was shot there), and the music, scenery, and film quality was very good. I also thought the wedding scene at the end was very good. The English subtitles were very clear, and the Puertorrican Spanish dialect seemed very authentic, as it seemed as though the actors were all Borinqueños.(Puertorricans). Many in the theater seemed to enjoy it, but I don't know, more than 4 or 4 1/2 out of 10 for this one would be a stretch.
