Ticalosii (2007) Reviews
Very brave and excellent
I admire the courage of this movie's director for making such a great attempt to ridicule all the big mafia and the corruption among the nowadays politicians of Romania. Although they say at the beginning of the movie that all the characters are fictitious, the story is clearly referring to one big business-man who was arrested for corruption not too long ago in our country. Even the name of the character is very resembling... Who lives in Romania now knows what I mean and I think that his movie is good just for this courage of showing the "clever guys" which all should be busted in no time if a really justice would be made. I'm still waiting for that moment... :) So, well, the movie seemed quite short they could have made it longer but even so, I was pleasantly surprised by this and I think all our politicians should see this and recognize themselves in it. I hope many movies like this will be produced. I highly recommend it.
unfortunately...a true story
If u're not a Romanian u can't really appreciate this movie, because it doesn't affect you. It's about those who are holding the power in Romania and those who are controlling them....and most important it explains what's the sole reason why people are into politics in this country ( MONEY ... lot's of it ). Ufcorse another aspect of this film is about what happens to those who are trying to do something good....in other words against the best interests of those mentioned above. This movie says it like it is... If u want to see a true face of Romanian politics watch it!
Basically, a succession of restaurant dialogs.
Despite the fact that the cast includes the most renowned Romanian actors, this movie is a failure. The theme of the movie (politicians and big shots mafiosi swimming together in the mud of corruption) cries out for attention and many would consider it appealing, but the way this movie instantiates this theme is at most questionable. Basically, the movie consists in a succession of dialogs which take place in restaurants. The insistence on exquisite food is pathetic and even annoying. The story is almost missing and the movie is flat from the beginning until the end, which can be easily anticipated. The actors do a good job, the image is also good. However, because of the fact that it lacks a real storyline, you won't miss anything if you skip this one.
Irresponsible and dangerous
One could easily pass over this pathetic attempt as just one more failure of the old pre-1989 Romanian non-cinema, lamely attempting to come to terms with the parameters of modern movie-making, if not for the fact that it compromises an extremely serious moral issue of today's society: the endemic corruption in Romanian business and politics. It's a public truth that a significant majority of the Parliament members are at least accomplices of sundry mafiosi and crooks, if not positively involved in criminal activities - and from this putrid political core, the ill spreads out to contaminate literally all the sectors of society: government, economics, commerce, banking, education, administration, etc. All the vain attempts of President Bäsescu, ex-Justice Minister Monica Macovei, and other personalities dedicated to the laws' rule were thwarted by the decaying hydra of the corrupted political class, led by shadowy figures as Adrian Nästase, Miron Mitrea, Dinu Patriciu, Cälin Popescu Täriceanu, Victor Ponta, Viorel Hrebenciuc, Ion Iliescu, Dan "Felix" Voiculescu, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, and many others. Well, this is the basic reality that Marinescu's production tries to represent. Unfortunately, the author proved time and again his total inability to deal with human persons on screen - his characters are shallow, false, riddled by clichés, and the performers are directed as if they were stuffed for a natural history museum (as noticed the reputed movie critic Andrei Gorzo). The timid sketch of a story is stiff and childish, with as much maturity as a kids play. The so-called "civic attitude" fails into ridicule, by its didacticism - the movie's message being unable to raise above the generic statement of: "All is thieves, damn 'em!" As such, by degrading in this fashion such a really critical social disease, the production unwittingly turns, from sadly hilarious, to irresponsibly dangerous.
Romanian politic and life reality (i live in Romania)
This movie is the best ever made in Romania. Almost all characters does really exist in life and the insistence on exquisite food, abuses, luxury and bad taste is for real and are here, in Romania. This is the best Romanian movie i ever seen. And please, excuse the quality of my English ;) About Romania: All important figures, from police officers to the president commit abuses and fight for rights that normal people doesn't dream. Many times we read this in newspapers and nothing happens. On a national TV post, a senator ask the reporter how she can put her nose into his business. Romanian president told a reporter something like "gipsy beach", took her mobile and pretend her to came into his office tomorrow and it will give her back. It is a very real movie.
