In 1977, an American scientist was convicted of killing and cannibalizing two colleagues in the jungles of Indonesia. Dr. Timothy Darrow, branded 'The American Cannibal' by the press during his trial, defended himself with an alibi that was insane. Beyond impossible. He claimed a mythic human-ape creature was responsible for the murders. In 2003, the remains of a species matching Darrow's description were found. In the very same jungles of Indonesia. It is now regarded as one of the most important anthropological finds ever: a team of scientists discovered the bones of an entirely new species of human, one that stood only three feet tall. But did they go extinct? An indigenous tribe on the Indonesian island of Flores, where the hobbit remains were discovered, have their own accounts of little wild men that climb trees and walk on two feet. They also describe them as cannibals. And according to their legend, they may never have died out at all... This is a story following a present-day...

The Cannibal in the Jungle (2015) Reviews

  • Pretty good film, but on the wrong channel

    simonxlong2015-06-25

This fake documentary-drama was pretty entertaining and did a good job of capturing the feel of a "real" documentary. It provided just enough factual information to lay the ground work for an entertaining, if somewhat predictable, storyline, and it didn't become overly cheesy along the way. Tension was built up fairly well and it was believable that the characters could have been real people. Unfortunately, it aired on Animal Planet, which is a horrible fit for a fictional story about "undiscovered primates." This should have been on SyFy or some other appropriate network, where viewers could clearly understand that it was fiction and just sit back and enjoy a decent attempt at suspense. For a network which is supposed to deal with real animals and real documentary material, Animal Planet seems to be following the path of History as it falls further and further from its original mission.

  • More garbage by Animal Planet

    indiedavid2015-06-15

With thousands of undiscovered species and unprecedented access to wildlife, I have no idea why Animal Planet continues to fabricate sensationalized garbage like this. This type of trash is the nature version of The Kardashians. What an extreme disappointment coming from the network that was once a reliable source of programming built around the fascinating natural world. I attend many film festivals and have seen outstanding, unique films about nature but unfortunately, they never get distribution. Hopefully, as Animal Planet abandons quality programming, some enterprising network will recognize the void they left when they departed from intellectual viewers and started catering to the less sophisticated audience.

First I want to say "Cannibal in the Jungle" makes a great movie. But why the confusion? When you watch it, they make it look like a documentary, however, I saw so many red flags in the acting and what they say went on. Who on this planet would have a film in there possession for over 30 years that belonged to her brother that was accused of such a crime and not WATCH it? Come on! He was portrayed as a GOOD guy so come on! Get real! Then at the end you get to read that he died in that prison before anyone would do a damn thing. The whole story made me mad. Yes, makes a good movie but they do purposely make it LOOK real. Why? I love to watch documentaries, always have. Now they are mixing truth with fiction like "Mermaids body of evidence". Animal Planet used to be a great place to watch and LEARN about things, now, you just can't believe anything they put on that channel. O.K. I can't say that. Jeremy Wade is down to earth and shows you the river monsters he catches. I like him! Animal Planet better be thanking their lucky stars they found him! When you watch "River Monsters" you know your not getting lied to. Jeremy looks for the truth! And I respect that. Anyway, just stop trying to fool people, it's not right!

  • Bar none, the best movie I have ever seen on TV.

This movie deserves to be a cult classic on a slightly higher level than 'The Blair Witch Project'. It has a similar reality format, and a greater degree of believability. It really and truly makes you believe in what is happening. I think the movie was criticized by fans of Animal Planet because it is supposed to be a reality educational channel. However, if you are a fan of horror it is an excellent watch, and will not disappoint. It is hard to explain why I like the movie without spoilers, but I think it is well worth viewing and will not be a waste of your time. The filming style adds to the believability and leaves you with a sense that you have actually caught a glimpse into an almost alternate reality, yet something that could conceivably happen--and maybe, just maybe they really exist.

  • Not a documentary, but still good nonetheless

I came into this thinking that this movie (yes, I knew it was a movie coming in) was going to be just as bad as that Mermaids crap that Animal Planet released several years back. However, I was genuinely surprised at the quality of this film. It does have scientific background, as there was a species of little humans living in Indonesia up until about 10,000 years ago, however not enough to really classify it as a documentary. The interviews were obviously fake, as it is with all docu-fictions, however the writers paid a good amount of attention to it's story. I actually felt for the characters, unlike with other animal planet docu-fictions. They made me like the characters, not just look at them indifferently like in Mermaids: The Body Found. Overall, I would highly recommend this film to anyone.
