Predictable Jayaram Story and Climax
When a movie is directed by Shafi we know what to except from the movie. A combination of full length comedy movie with lesser importance to a strong story line. But still it would once in a while give memorable characters and dialogs such as Innocent in Kalyana Raman and Salim Kumar in Pulival Kalyanam. The film has Jayaram as Balu, who is amidst losses after floating an event management company. He is in such deep debt that he has to enter his own house after dark like a thief to avoid bumping into his many creditors. It is in this dismal situation that he is forced to take care of Soorya (Sheela), who is madly in love with him and has fled from her home before her marriage to be with him. Balu's only company in the city is a film production manager Kichu Manjaly (Suraj Venjarammoodu), who arranges their stay in the hotel room allotted for a new heroine of the movie. Confusions galore follows and Soorya is forced to act as the new face and soon she is selected as the heroine of the new film 'Cindrella' by director Siddharth(Siddique), which is under production. The director changes her name to 'Anamika' and in order to stay close with her, Balu takes the role of her personal makeup man.. The climax of the movie seems to be goofed up due its predictable nature. Jagathi didn't had much to do in the movie compared to Suraj Venjaaramoodu. Siddique was pick of the lot as a supporting role. Prithviraj,Kunchakko did a cameo appearance without much importance to their roles. Songs are below average considering the talent and capability of Vidhyasagar and there isn't much to pick as for hummable tunes I wouldn't recommend this as an entertainer and worth enough to be seen more than once with its weak story line and climax. Rather recommend the older movies of director such as Kalyana Raman, Chocolate and Pulival Kalyanam if you are looking for a full length comedy movie.
Jayaram, Jagathy, Jagadish, Suraj. Enough comedy or your money back :)
Makeup Man sounds like a boring, ho-hum type movie for those who've not watched it yet. But it actually surpasses your expectations. There's a nice mix of love & comedy, peppy music, lovely acting - to sum up, a good family entertainer. For Jayaram(as makeup man Balu), this is another walk in the park role. He was effortless. So was Siddique who breezes in his character as a love-struck, passionate film director Siddharth. Sheela Kaul(as an upcoming heroine Soorya & also Balu's wife) is talented. Hope she also gets oodles of luck to continue growing in cinema. Suraj Venjaramoodu(as a clumsy production controller) is humorous, so is Jagathy as a mean money lender. But it is Jagadish as a stammering lawyer fighting Balu's divorce case that steals the comedy show in the movie. Even senior actors like Janardhanan(as a frustrated, tensed producer) leaves us laughing with his hysteria. I should also say the story was well laid out, and directed impressively. Of course, to add more flavour we have the romantic Kunjacko Boban and the dashing Prithviraj making guest appearances. The only shortcoming I felt was the camera-work. It was nice but in couple of scenes, actors like Jayaram and Prithviraj are weakly shown. Even few scenes from the movie could have been deleted as they don't really bring anything to the story or gain interest of the viewers, like Suraj joking with the cameraman on why he prefers shooting only in Kerala or Salim Kumar(as a veteran makeup artist) drinking alone & eating nuts! Verdict: Thanks to 'family actor' Jayaram, nice music and hilarious acts from Suraj, Jagathy & Jagadish, you are not left yawning or fiddling in your seats. A fun watch for all.
