Hasn't he - he who keeps craving communication - invariably proved a dreadful bore to others...? So, when Sim is unexpectedly offered a job, he takes it, hoping one more time to give a little bit of meaning to his life. Even if his task amounts to driving across France and trying to sell... a "revolutionary biological toothbrush" to reluctant dentists!

You have here a terrific Jean-Pierre Bacri vehicle, where he is at his very best. He gives in this film an outstanding performance which suits him like a glove. I guess no actors on earth could play such a character. The tale of a traveling salesman specialized in biological tooth brushes who suddenly realizes that he spoiled his entire life, he missed everything, family, girl friends, friends, everything. Jean-Pierre Bacri has always been a specialist for such characters. Bitter, cynical, disabused characters who don't believe in anything anymore. You see in this movie some funny sequences, but also depressing in you watch them closely. I highly appreciated the parallel between his character and the lost navigator's one - a British sailor named Donald Crowhurst who really existed. This is a so poignant film about loneliness and also an interesting feature that brings an offbeat point of view on homosexuality.
