François Sim considers himself worthless and he may have good reasons for that. Hasn't he lost his job as well as his wife Caroline? Isn't he unable to relate to Lucy, his teenage daughter? Hasn't he - he who keeps craving communication - invariably proved a dreadful bore to others...? So, when Sim is unexpectedly offered a job, he takes it, hoping one more time to give a little bit of meaning to his life. Even if his task amounts to driving across France and trying to sell... a "revolutionary biological toothbrush" to reluctant dentists!

    You have here a terrific Jean-Pierre Bacri vehicle, where he is at his very best. He gives in this film an outstanding performance which suits him like a glove. I guess no actors on earth could play such a character. The tale of a traveling salesman specialized in biological tooth brushes who suddenly realizes that he spoiled his entire life, he missed everything, family, girl friends, friends, everything. Jean-Pierre Bacri has always been a specialist for such characters. Bitter, cynical, disabused characters who don't believe in anything anymore. You see in this movie some funny sequences, but also depressing in you watch them closely. I highly appreciated the parallel between his character and the lost navigator's one - a British sailor named Donald Crowhurst who really existed. This is a so poignant film about loneliness and also an interesting feature that brings an offbeat point of view on homosexuality.
