Set in the silk city, Vengadam is a simple weaver, who promises his new born daughter a silk sari on her wedding day. Aware of his poverty, he steals a single thread of silk from the mill he works for everyday, until he can gather enough for the sari. But communism seeps into the village and soon the mills shut down one by one, leaving Vengadam to question the very ideals of communism he once embraced.
