In and Out of Planet Earth (2008) Reviews
This film is so sexy
This is truly a remarkable film. Mark Joseph, the lead character spends 60 minutes underwater where he will live, eat and dream of having sex. His speech is so deep and so raw at the same time. I love the part at the beginning when the main actor is talking to his ego. We actually only see his ego at the end of the film. At the beginning when the girl is talking to a friend over the phone the actor is talking to his ego. The two of them are living completely different stories, but at the same time. It's perfect.
Swimming underwater for 60 minutes
There is so much description of sex in this film. That's crazy. Everything is multiplied tenfold underwater. But it's well done not rude or cheap. Is the girl at the beginning his girlfriend? I saw the film 3 times so far and I still don't get bored. Even the scenes with no dialog and just some fish floating around. I'm not sure if some of the scenes are meant to be funny or what? There was a play before the film. I wished I'd seen it. The music is a stroke of genius, it fits the movie perfectly.
Did I watch another film?
"In and out of planet earth" deals with a man fighting himself in a transcendence somewhere between life and death. We hear his thoughts as he is struggling to hold grasp to his life and his identity. I don't know if the other voters here watched another movie but the one I saw was truly horrible. It was exactly how I imagine a bad drug trip, one that makes you quit. First of all, the idea of portraying someone inbetween life and death has its charme which is why I gave the movie a try in the first place. But you can't just ignore the visual altogether, deliver a tape that could have been filmed with the worst cellphone ever and add a dozen filters to make it even more unwatchable. The dialogues seem random, which would maybe be okay, if, again, the visual parts weren't so poor as well. All in all I'm almost angry that producers think this is good enough to put it out, not because I doubt their good intentions or the potential of the story but because it is poorly translated into a film. Of course this is only my opinion and others seem to have enjoyed the film but sorry, I can't help but to say try again and do a lot of things different next time!
Fantastic!
This film is truly fantastic! I'm in love with the lead actor Mark Joseph. It's like a whole film underwater. A documentary at the bottom of the ocean but with the actor underwater breathing under the sea. We can hear his thoughts. I don't agree with the comment that some of it is boring since he doesn't speak through all of the minutes. For the sixty minutes underwater I think it's quiet nice to see the fish, shark and hear the delirious music. Too much dialogue would have been annoying. Not many stories can have such a dual exchange with the same actor playing his ego. That actor is tremendous. I did like the girl at the beginning and the end. It's unreal. She has a different conversation with someone else on the phone whilst the lead character has a conversation with his ego at the same time. That is so clever!
