  • Ahockalypse: Zombie comedy fun

    Platypuschow2018-11-03

I love zombie themed comedies, I think they blend together really well and even the poor ones tend to be fairly entertaining. Telling a very wafer thin story about a zombie outbreak and a group of friends from a hockey team trying to survive it Ahockalypse was a surprising amount of fun. The writing is fantastic, it takes a lot to get me to actually laugh out loud but this did and a fair few times. It's a genuinely funny movie and it has a remarkable likeability factor about it with shed loads of charm. From the opening scene I was gripped and kind of expected the film to reach a rare level of greatness. Alas it didn't happen, though the movie is funny and very enjoyable it also has its fair share of very unfortunate flaws. From the lack of consistency to some silly scenes to the ridiculous cgi which just wasn't needed. This is a zombie movie folks, no cgi needed! Did peeps learn nothing from World War Z (2013)? So fine it's not the incredible film I expected it to be but if you can forgive its flaws you'll find a very funny little zombie movie that oozes potential. I'd love to see the creators do a sequel and iron out the formulas kinks. Fun little zombie comedy, well worth anyones time. The Good: Trump/Putin joke Some genuinely funny moments Really likeable stuff The Bad: Totally unnecessary poor sfx Martial arts scenes Things I Learnt From This Movie: If you pour beer away, you don't have it to drink anymore! Swedish people commonly use their butts to store beer Folks need to see Home Alone from Joe Pesci's point of view During the zombie apocalypse push up bras are essential

  • This was just plain bad, and not in a good way

Do not waste your time on this movie. It was so bad - the acting, the directing...everything. Some bad movies can be so bad that they are funny and good. This was not one of them. It was not watchable. Painful and boring.

  • Not a hockey or zombie movie.

Horrible and not in the awesome way. This is made for no one. Don't waste your time.

  • Disappointing and unfunny zombie comedy

Following a hockey victory, a team decides to celebrate a hotel where a zombie apocalypse breaks out in their small town forcing the team to band together with a few fellow survivors to barricade themselves off in order to escape the ravenous, bloodthirsty creatures coming after them. For the most part, this is an incredibly disappointing zombie comedy. That this one gets started off on a nice note with a fun opening action scene which lets this one work out it's greatest aspect. This one really works best with plenty of action, bringing up the numerous confrontations with the zombies throughout here. As the creatures are out and about from the very beginning, this one offers up a series of constant encounters and ambushes as the kids being out in the open during the onslaught of appearances has plenty to like. Focusing on the briefer situations brought about by their stupidity to continue getting themselves into trouble which spurs their night on, the pace maintains quite a frantic pace here with the confrontations outside of the hotel, the residential battle inside their friends' house or the finale with the series of battles and escape attempts through the city that they engage in while trying to get away before landing at the arena for the big showdown. While it occasionally offers a nice joke or physical gag from time-to-time as well as generating a few solid gore-gags with the impressive-looking zombies, these here hold it up over its flaws. The biggest issue with this one is the fact that there's not a lot of actual funny comedy in this supposed mashup of the two genres. The characters here are some of the most insipid and stupid people ever, blindly rushing into situations that common sense says is completely dangerous yet doing so simply so that a zombie attack can take place which is just plain infuriating to watch the characters go through such behaviors. Seeing them stumble into a situation with a zombie and get attacked only because of their stupidity gets tiring after a while, especially once the joke wears off that everybody ends up getting stripped down to their underwear multiple times here whether by meeting with the street thugs who rob them or wind up with the homosexual club owner who strips them down for a private show. The annoyingly overacted characters who constantly scream and shout everything they say as if the joke's funnier when said when they're yelling, causing further irritation. The overall simplicity could also be a problem for some as this one tends to overlook the reasoning for the creatures being released and just has them out, but overall it's more the comedy that tends to hold this one back. Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Langage and Nudity.

  • A great premise gone horribly wrong.

    OrangieTooDope2018-10-18

They did a great job of making a movie with no budget. The jokes are bad, but still better than most zombie comedy. The only real problem is all the things that don't make sense. I assume they were due to bad editing. They get locked in a basement and then they are just not in the basement. Was that a joke? I think it would have been better if the story was about Rob and Don.
