  • A class art movie

    alokc2008-06-06

This movie belongs to actor Rajesh Khanna who won the best actor award for the movie. He is in every angle of the movie and performs with ease the character of an office going husband who still cares for his wife but they do not have time for each other. The character of Amar has been essayed by Rajesh Khanna without any Super Star mannerisms and shows all shades of the character as a great actor would do. We wish he also did such movies in those days with great directors like Basu Bhattacharyya in this movie, Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal who would have added another dimension to his career. Coming to the movie Sharmila puts is a equally powerful portrayal as Mansi. The movie has touching moments and has great music by Kanu Roy. It is a must see for any couple and must see for Rajesh Khanna fans and critics. I do not think any star of those days could have done this role save Sanjeev Kumar.

  • An absolute classic

    sanjayppc2014-04-22

Avishkaar will go down in the annals of Hindi cinema as one of the best films ever made. This Rajesh-Sharmila classic explores the matrimonial relationship between 2 headstrong individuals. It is superbly directed by Basu Bhattacharya & he is ably supported by some very good music by Kanu Roy. The film is just 150 minutes long & that is its strength. The beauty of the film is that it is not judge mental & tells the story as seen by the 2 central characters. Sharmila Tagore gives a sensitive portrayal & this is another feather in her cap. However, the real surprise here is the superstar Rajesh Khanna. For people who claim that he was only s star, this is the film they must watch. His performance is worthy of a national award here. He seamlessly blends into the character & this must rate as his finest performance alongside Anand. It is a pity that Rajesh did not work with more such directors in his illustrious career. The film did dot do well primarily because mindless potboilers had started ruling the roost in Hindi cinema at that time. A film which will be forever remembered in Hindi cinema as an absolute must watch for lovers of good cinema.

  • Great acting and great chemistry between Rajesh and Sharmila

This is really a beautiful movie. Rajesh Khanna's portrait of a married man after having a kid is right on the money. He looks gorgeous as usual but his acting just blew me away. Sharmila and Rajesh do have a certain chemistry and they are so at ease with each other that nothing feels out of character. Granted, the poems tend to get heavy ( specially the last one with sun and earth) but Rajesh's melodious voice keeps haunting you. Absolutely loved the movie. The background music adds to the story. The end is so touching and so real almost made me cry. Would recommend to almost everyone over 18, not a story to be understood unless you have been in love and in a relationship!

  • Boring - Great for insomniacs.

Aavishkar has done something that no other Bollywood film has ever been able to do -- put me to sleep. I will be totally honest - after forcing myself to watch the first 50 minutes of 90, I could not take it any more and could not care how the film ended. I knew enough that I could not get that 50 minutes back. Rajesh Khanna won a best actor award for this film but I would hate to see the competition. It seemed like he sleep walked through most of it and was literally in bed, half asleep, had headaches and irritable except when he remember how happy he was during the first year of his marriage. This film was supposed to be "artsy." Meybe whoever put it together should have gone back to the drawing board.
